Is Mel Gibson catholic or ill ?? Or both?
I saw some Sequences from his new Jesus-film. Horrible. Very violent, very bloody. Everything for the hardcore catholic mind.Suffering is beautyful.Oh no. I cant describe you how I hated those Pictures from the Jesus-passion when I was a kid. Gibson says that he was supported by the holy ghost when he made this film.
This was a Warning from Andi,
born catholic (they did not ask me), today very interested in Buddhahinduchristwhateverhockeyandbeer- but not in Mel Gibson.

LOL Andi. There are many catholics ( ex-catholics) who share your sentiments I'm sure.
Thanks for sharing your views about that movie. I have been wondering about this film. There is a lot of controversy surrounding it for some reason.

There's a lot of controversy about the film because of who generally gets blamed for the crucifixion of Christ, the Jews or the Romans? Yeah, way to bloody and depressing for me to see... Mel Gibson always has himself brutally murdered/beat up in his films (think Braveheart); I think it's one of his specialties !
Here's a view on beliefnet by David Klinghoffer about it.

Andi, thanks for the heads-up! That kind of movie doesn't appeal to me...only if they are skewering the catholic religion would I be interested!
The Magdalene Sisters sounds like one I'd like to see...and hey, did anyone ever see The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys? *That* was one I really wanted to see, but I'm so out of touch when it comes to movies!
I should like to see Sea Biscuit someday...:-)

buzzard, bee & bat
If you put a buzzard in a pen six or eight feet square and entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of his ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of ten or twelve feet. Without space to run, as is his habit, he will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.
The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.
A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler will be there until it dies unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.
In many ways, there are lots of people like the buzzard, the bat and the bee. They are struggling about with all their problems and frustrations, not realizing that the answer is right there above them.

Well, unless you can speak latin or arameic (or however you spell it) dont even bother going cos there aint no subtitles!
Apparently its being dubbed as 'anti-semitic' because it portrays the Jews as having a greater hand in Jesus's death than the Romans... which is almost certainly true.
Hey, the Jewish faith doesnt believe in the existance of Christ, therefore why are they getting worked up about being blamed for the death of someone, in their mind, never existed anyway.
Everyones a victim....

You're right, Carrie, I guess Mel Gibson is not actually playing Christ?! And also that the actors only speak Hebrew, Latin, or Aramaic, and that it's still under discussion whether or not it will have subtitles ? That's so odd! Of course Jewish scholars are uptight because some people are looking for any excuse to persecute the Jews. Article about that.
Here's another interesting article about "The Passion". ->
"MOST IMPORTANT, Gibson's narrative shows that Pilate alone has the power to put Jesus to death, and the film's full narrative weight assigns responsibility to Rome and the Roman soldiers. The Anti-Defamation League is wrong to assert that the Jewish authorities are "forcing the decision" and that the Jewish high priest is "controlling" Pontius Pilate. The Jews had no such power, and they say so in the film. Pilate tries to shift the responsibility, first to Herod, then to the high priests. And he pretends that the decision is not his--but he knows it is, and he gives the orders that only he can give. His soldiers enjoy their brutal sport, as obviously they have done before: Historians suggest they performed this gruesome work about 150 times in crucifixions under Pilate."
Well, this is cheery! I still think it sounds too brutal to watch.

I believe the thing is that the Jewish people didn't believe Jesus was The Christ, The Son Of God....but they accept his existence, don't they?
