Subject: animal spirit guides

Dear Steve,

I read with interest your response on spirit guides, and I'm wondering
how you feel about animal spirit guides. I took a workshop once in
alternate ways of knowing, and one of the leaders had us go through a
guided visualization and at one point we were to turn the corner and see
our animal spirit guide. I was amazed at what I saw, an opossum shaking
its head back and forth as though it were laughing. (I had, years
before, raised 5 baby 'possums and released them back into the wild.)

I am not opposed to the idea of having animals as teachers. In fact, I'm
one of the persons belonging to a dog who has gone blind from glaucoma,
and my husband and I have both learned a great deal from her in how she
has dealt with this--her joy in life and her energy have not diminished
in the least. Yet I have always found it curious that the animal spirit
guide that I "found" seems so alien and unappealing and which I can't
see has opened me to any kind of knowing. (If I were to choose an animal
guide, I'd choose a spider or a cat.)

Rebecca Bailey (Becky)

P.s. It's okay to post this on the communication board.

Dear Becky,

I don't have any problem with the idea of animals being spirit guides. As a
medium I frequently have all sorts of animals come through for people I am
doing readings for. Although the outer covering or physical body of an
animal may be different than that of a human the soul within is similarly a
small spark of the larger, Supreme Spirit. Regardless of the type of
physical body the soul survives the destruction of the physical body and
continues to live in the dimensions of Spirit.

We can learn so much from animals and don't have to wait until they pass
over to benefit from their association. Keep in mind that you attract your
spirit guides to you by who you are mentally and spiritually. We end up
getting the help we need from those who are most qualified from the higher
planes. The Native Americans worked closely with animal spirits and
understood their importance in providing spiritual strength and guidance.

I encourage you to continue to meditate and open up to the guides and
helpers, both human and nonhuman, who are working with you. For every step
we take to get closer to Spirit, our guides and friends on the other side
will take many more to get closer to us. God Bless you.

Steve
